Client: mobile/browser game development company
Product: interactive Flash game portal
Client Location: Belgium
Offshore Testing Center Location: Beijing
Objective: Conduct black box regression testing for the interactive flash game portal (Flash web application).
Result Testimonial: “I am pleased to see that the testing project proceeded smoothly. The feedbacks and supports from Unitesting have been fantastic. Thanks to the testing team members’ handwork, the Flash game portal was released on time. We look forward to collaborate with Unitesting on future projects.” – said Andrew Peterson (Project Manager & Key Person).
Overview: Recently, Unitesting just received a new testing project from a mobile/browser game development company. The first task that the client assigned to our testing team was to conduct regression testing for their interactive Flash game portal. When an iteration of the Flash web application was completed, new bugs might be introduced to the tested and worked features. Regression testing was necessary for the best quality assurance of the Flash web application.
Challenge: The new version needed to be released as soon as possible so that so feature bugs from the older version of the Flash game web application can be fixed. Unitesting team had to fight with time since the test all regression testing method was time and cost consuming. In addition, many test cases and test plans were not properly documented by the previous contracted testing company.
Solution: Unitesting decided to look over the old cases and generate new test cases based on risks for regression testing. The risk level is determined by the probability of bugs generated by the new feature added to the flash web application. Each test case is prioritized by their risk level. Our engineers created test scenarios with the high risk level test cases. This method allowed the testing team to cut down time and cost of regression testing.
New Direction: After Unitesting successfully signed off on the new version, the testing team began working on test automation. Test automation was difficult at first since the entire web application was built with Flash and our testing team did not have the access to the source code. With permissions from the client, our testing team installed Adobe Flex plug-in for QTP (QuickTest Professional). The team automated many test cases for regression testing so that it would cut down the time for future regression test runs.
