A qualified test architect should know test technology completely.
The test technology here refers to demand analysis technology, test design technology and test execution technology and so on. Each development architect must be familiar with the basic programming technology, programming language grammar and design patterns or even proficient in these aspects. What the architect should contribute is technical proposals, rational architecture designs and design patterns, so as to make codes of developers more quality and testable, and enable testers to do faster designs, compiling and find the hidden bugs.
A qualified test architect should handle the latest test technology and apply it with the team.
The architect should not only be able to apply and give guidance to the test strategy and test models, but also have a knowledge of the new test technologies (demand analysis technology, test design technology, test execution technology and excellent tools), and explore how to apply these to the company, then study and customize or complete these technologies, providing implementation plans and guiding other testers to participate in it to improve the testers' ability to find bugs quickly and find more hidden ones.
A qualified test architect should be able to abstract and create new test technologies which can be applied in the team.
According to new business mode and new architecture, test architects should abstract and create new test technologies (demand analysis technology, test design technology, test execution technology and excellent tools) and work with the team while providing guidance. If the service is offered to all the testers in this industry, a master will be born. Similar to equivalence class analysis or cause-effect diagram, cool architects should develop or create similar test technologies to enable testers do quick test designs and improve the coverage of the tests.
Conclusions
For a developer, we admire a development architect not because he writes good codes or do it fast or without bugs, but the key is that he provides good and reasonable advice and guidance. As a test, I will also admire a test architect, for he can analyze the project or system in a clear way and give very rational test strategies and proposals. For those abnormal or special modules they can provide guidance to improve the coverage of tests, and they can also develop small tools to help us improve the efficiency of tests. These skills all require long-term accumulation of test technologies and relevant experience.
